What does this actually do?
It rewrites your PDF into a compact modern structure: objects packed into compressed object streams, a cross-reference stream instead of an old-style table, and unreferenced objects dropped. Viewers parse this faster, and the file usually gets smaller.
Is this the same linearization Adobe Acrobat or qpdf does?
No, and we say so plainly. Full linearization also reorders every object and adds byte-range hint tables for page-by-page streaming over the network — that isn't practical in a browser. This tool delivers the structural half: a clean, compact file that opens faster. If you need certified linearization, run qpdf --linearize on the result.
What happens to passwords and digital signatures?
Password protection is dropped (only do this on files you're allowed to modify), and any digital signatures are invalidated by the rewrite — check the result with our PDF Digital Sig. Verifier if that matters.
Why did my file get bigger?
It can happen when the source PDF was already fully optimized — the rewrite adds nothing left to compact. The structure is still rebuilt cleanly, so nothing is lost.
